Rohi Children Organization knows that it is important to reach out to the community of Nakuru and the surrounding areas within Kenya. That is why our Ministry Department is so important; It gives us a foothold into communities where poverty, starvation, thirst, and disease are often the norm. We care for the community here in Kenya and want to share the love of God with all peoples.
In addition to Community Development and Missions ministries, Rohi has an office in NakuruTown where street children and destitute people are counseled and cared for. From this office, food and medical assistance are given. In some cases Rohi also helps with interest free micro-finance for members of the community that have a skill but no capital to get started. If we can help poor families and individuals to sustain themselves, we can start them on their way to a better and healthier life.
Hilton: ”The Dump“
Rohi provides outreach to families trapped in poverty and living in desitute situations. Many of these families are located in Hilton, also known as “The Dump”. Hilton is located on the outskirts of Nakuru and is one of our favorite Ministries.
Resources provided to these families helps break the cycle that causes children to end up on the streets.
Street Church
It is important for Rohi Children Organization to continue to reach out to the community of Nakuru and the surrounding areas. In our town office we visit with street people and people who are just scraping by in the slums. There’s always a budget for prayer but often we also help with cases that need national identification papers for work, people who are sick and need medical attention, and some who just need a “leg up” with a business start-up.
It doesn’t end with the borders of Nakuru either. We also enjoy travelling to places like Solai where we have spent a day washing feet and removing jiggers (from feet and houses). Other areas like the remote and arid community of Pokot are places we like to travel to help with water collection tools (like tanks and rain gutters). We also do evangelistic outreach in these places through evening movies like “The Jesus Film”. It would be easy to hole up in our quiet little community of Kiamunyeki but that is not what God has called us to do. We are to “love our neighbor as ourself” and that’s what we try to do through Community Development.
Guardian Ministry
Over the years, most of the children at Rohi schools have been reunited with at least one extended family member. This family member can be an aunt or uncle, a grandfather or grandmother, or sometimes even an upstanding member of the community with a heart for children.
Rohi helps the families and guardians of these children through our Guardian Outreach Program which serves to reinforce the truth that children are a blessing and not a burden. Sometimes this help will come in the form of a dairy goat or a few chickens (kukus). Other times we help guardians with water tanks or roofing materials. And sometimes it’s help in the form of a business start-up like selling used clothing (mutumba), charcoal (makaa) or a donkey (punda) for transportation.
Our Guardian Outreach program is one of the most rewarding things we do. In fact, it blesses us and our teams as much as it blesses the extended families of our children. Most of our Guardian Projects cost about $300. That $300 can be the difference of a family sustainaing itself or remaining in a destitute situation.
