Missionary Teams
Like the month of June, the month of July had a lot of blessings. The Cornerstone June Team opened the month for us. They spent part of June and also part of July with us. The team visited the dump giving Buckets of Love to the people living near the dump. They were also involved in the guardian outreach, the street ministry, and painting the girls’ dorm in the primary school. The men on the team joined with the Rohi male staff to have a Kenyan barbeque.
The second team that visited the organization was the Cornerstone High School Team. The team visited the Solai area (15 miles from Rohi). This was the first team to visit this mission area. The people in the area don’t have enough food. The team gave food to more than 200 people. They also brought together pastors and church elders who helped them minister to the people in the area. In addition, the team was involved in the guardian outreach and giving Buckets of Love to the residents of the dump. The team also participated in the Rolympics. This is a sports day when the Rohi students and staff join hands together to compete and to showcase their talent and to celebrate their diversity. The High School Team joined the Rohi family for this day. The missionaries participated in volleyball and some races while Pastor Matt and Chris worked together as basketball referees.
The Fremont Team was another blessing. They visited an orphanage in Nakuru, attended street church, did training for the Rohi staff, visited a guardian and interacted with the staff. The team was very helpful to the organization because it also has a ministry to the homeless. This was a good opportunity to share experiences with them because of our street ministry. It was also a blessing to the Rohi teachers to interact with other teachers and friends from Fremont Community School.
Huebner Farewell
On the tenth of July, it was a sad feeling for the organization when we came together as a family for the farewell of Denny and Susan Huebner. The two worked together with us in Rohi Organization for three years. Members reflected on the good memories they had with the Huebners. The couple was later given a gift as a sign of appreciation for the good work they had done in Kenya. May the Lord bless them for their good work at Rohi.
Rohi Activities
We are heading for the school break. Both schools will close on Friday 31st July 2009. Apart from a few students who will not go home due to lack of a guardian who can host them, the others will go home to join families and friends. The Class 7 & 8 and Form 3 students will be left behind for extra learning during the holiday to prepare for the National Exams. The holiday will also give the teachers a break because this was the longest term within the year.
The community development, organization office and the sustainability will continue to run as usual. The sustainability department will ensure that the schools have sufficient vegetables for the final term of the year.
Note from U.S. Rohi Director
To all of you out there with a heart to serve these special kids and families in Kenya, I need to inform you that I have stepped down from my role with Rohi, as well as my position at Cornerstone. It was a very difficult decision, but I feel God is leading me in this direction and I have His peace that this is the right timing. I am planning to spend more time with my family, including out-of-the-area children. I thank God for the opportunity and privilege He gave me to be involved with Rohi all these years and look forward to seeing it continue to grow. Thanks to each one of you for your dedication to this ministry – for your prayers and sacrificial giving – your commitment will continue to be important as the school continues to expand and the students move on to higher education. Thank you again and many blessings, Bev Dixon.
